I’m absolutely fine, and I’m not mad, I’m just over talking to you anymore.

Dear D,

We met a long time ago, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we’ve been friends a long time. In fact, we haven’t been friends, in a long time. As I see it, we’re just somebody we each used to know. I believe you are bewitched by nostalgia and what you remember as us, which is nothing more than a beautiful memory of which you won’t let fade.

I’m positive you truly have no idea who I am anymore. You only know what I tell you, and admittedly, it’s not much. Casually acquainted I’d actually call it. Recently, I’ve told my estheticians more about my life in an hour appointment, than I’ve actually told you. You just don’t know me like that anymore, if you ever did.

The better days of our relationship were arguably almost 20 years ago. So much has happened since then. Ever since those days, we’ve existed on a plane of occasional, shallow, passing interest. At least that’s how I feel it’s been, I genuinely have no idea what you get out of all this. I could use my imagination, but I’d rather not. I’ve never asked because I can’t say I’ve ever cared enough to know. I’ve gotten very little out of whatever this is, and it’s rarely constructive, quite the opposite most of the time. Continuing to pretend otherwise is categorically unproductive.

We were good enough, for a time, but never great. I can say that with absolute certainty, because I have had great, and it was not us.

I find your interest curious and your approach exasperating. You flirt (If that’s what you can even call it), and I do not engage, but that doesn’t stop you. You don’t back off, despite my conscious efforts to avoid encouraging your advances. I know I’ve asked you politely and even directly told you to back off, a couple times, over the years. Whether because I was in a relationship or because I simply deemed your words and actions disrespectful, vulgar, rude, and unnecessary. You would seem to respect that for a time, but never very long. You’re trying to compliment, but more often than not it’s more frustrating than anything. It’s also disrespectful, and I’m not talking just about me either. I’ve been in and out of relationships, but you’ve been in the same one for a long time. It’s not just disrespectful to your lady/girlfriend/wife/whatever she is to you, but also to her kids..the kids you are choosing to raise. You are supposed to be setting an example, for how your daughter should expect to be treated, and how your son should expect to treat a woman. They all deserve better than the shabby standard you are setting. So do I.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while, hoping I could ignore you long enough to move on. That seems unlikely. So, this is my way of telling you, in no uncertain terms, to move on. Let me go, put any future interest and effort into your family. Or don’t. I don’t care, but you should.

I wish you all happiness and health, but please let me be. I will be just fine.

I feel you girl. Jekyll and Hyde..I’m currently sitting in mediation with those two aspects of me and my life, with and without *insert expletive*. But part of my deal is anxiety and probably a handful of undiagnosed mental and emotional hiccups. I am an easy-going hot-head that’s primarily passive until provoked. Not “door mat” passive, but not seeking confrontationunless necessary. The problem remains that it’s all fine until I cross the threshold into that dimension of pissed off or cornered in some capacity which winds me up and induces a frenzy from which I must recognize and take the time to come out of.

Outrun myself

Posted: January 12, 2018 in Uncategorized

You. Are always on my mind.

Every minute. Every day.

In my sleep.

Not even dreams. Sleeping thoughts.

You consume me.

I focus energy. Enough sometimes.

To push you aside.

Still, you’re always there.

Believe me I’ve tried.

I’ll keep trying.

To hide.

To run.

To hate you.

But I won’t. Because I can’t.

I want to.

But only because you want me to.

I need to.

But only because you need me to.

I stay away.

But only because I love you.

Even at this very moment

I’m trying to hate you, to forget you

Because you asked me to

You need me to, for my own sake

So, I try. Every minute.

I walk away. My feet feel made of lead.

I can’t run from you.

I can’t run fast enough.

Or far enough.

Because you hold my heart.

You will always be a part of me.

And I can never outrun myself.

So heavy and unbearable. Unnecessary and unyielding. Hurtful and sometimes impossible to overcome.

If you cannot stop doubting me, how can I ever show you the truth?

Friends, lovers, family.. On a long enough timeline, everyone who’s intentions you doubt, will inevitably become exactly what you expect.

When someone asked me what my first love felt like, I had an incredibly hard time deciding when, and even if, that had happened for me.

What if every thing and every time I thought it was love, it wasn’t. It was simply what I thought was love because I didn’t know any better. That it just happened to be affection enough for what I needed at the time.

Maybe that’s all that love is..the right amount of what you need, when you need it. Because anything more is a waste and anything less simply will not cut it.

I’ve wanted so badly for it to be love. To have something so precious that neither of us could breathe without it.

But I can. And so can they. Because that’s not what love is. That’s what we are taught to believe that love is. A feeling so strong it controls you and your being. That you can’t live without that one true love.

If you absolutely can’t live without that one true love please tell me, how did you ever? You survived for so long, making your own mistakes, learning and growing. As did they.

Love is a choice. You feel emotions. In my opinion love is like anger, it will act as a cloak “emotion”. In such a way, you do not feel anger because it’s not true, it’s not real. The next time you’re “angry”, I dare you to sit down and think, very hard, about what you’re really feeling. Are you feeling disappointed? Hurt? Lonely? Let down? Frustrated? Anxious? Annoyed? Petulant? Hostile? Bitter? Melancholy? Offended? Provoked? Passionate? Proud? I bet you can find something deep down that is feeding your “anger”.

Now, try that with “love”.  You’re in “love”. Are you feeling appreciated? Fulfilled? Enamored? Excited? Aroused? Admired? Respected? Understood? Valued? Beloved? Honored? Precious? Beautiful? Wanted? Affectionate? Intimate? Spiritually, emotionally and/or physically close to the person whom you “love”? For me personally, nostalgia is a very tricky emotion to navigate.

There is a lot of words that can effectively describe the emotions we feel when we are angry or when we love someone or something. I truly believe that both of those “emotions” are not real in the true sense of the definition. I believe we choose either and we can choose to not, when inspired or provoked in either direction.

Sometimes that direction takes the one we love away from us. When that happens there’s really nothing we can do except choose what we are feeling for now and try to move on.

Everything’s fine.

  • Everything is not fine.

I absolutely love the bustle of the city.

  • I feel incredibly isolated even in this place so full of life

I’m just so busy lately.

  • I make every effort to appear this busy in an attempt to distract others from my lack of commitment to our communications.

I haven’t seen you in forever.

  • I miss you.

I can find myself lost in the calm of the night.

  • I do not like to be alone with my thoughts, the quiet only amplifies my insecurities.

I’m just looking for something real.

  • I will only settle for the illusion I have conjured in my imagination.

I absolutely believe that there’s someone special out there for me.

  • I will find and eventually alienate my soulmate while simultaneously sabotaging myself.

I just want you be be honest with me.

  • I will take offense to everything you say and most likely hold it all against you.

I miss you.

  • I love you.

I am always here for you if you need me.

  • I’m tired of being attentive to your tribulations.

I’m just not sure I know what I want right now.

  • I know precisely what I want right now, I just don’t feel comfortable expressing it to you.

I just need some space.

  • I need help, please..I’m drowning in tears, I’m suffocating in silence.

I really do love you.

  • I can’t remember the last time you crossed my mind.

I don’t want you to go.

  • I do not wish to continue the fallacy of this union which no longer seduces me.

I don’t know what I’d do without you.

  • I can’t wait to be free of you.

I miss you.

  • I don’t miss you, I miss the idea of you.

I love you.

  • I don’t love you, I love the idea of you.

Everything’s fine.

  • Everything is not fine.

*Inspired by raw, unhindered, emotion all around me.

The truth is

Everyone you know

Is a hardcore junkie

What for, doesn’t matter

Who for, doesn’t matter

It’s the stimulus that drives us all

What’s your pleasure

How much will you give

How far will you go?

To escape from reality

To chase the euphoria

To reach that delicious high

Don’t show me yours, you don’t need to know mine

We can all smell the blood of our own

It’s simply a primal response to carnal desires

Nothing, and nobody, is hard to find if you try

If we should cross paths in similar fashion

Perhaps an alliance of indulgence we shall find
Sex.Alcohol.Love.Drugs.Adrenaline.Adventure.

to be a sucker

and still play the fool

just act as though it won’t happen to you

of course she knows better

it can’t be her fault

yet every time it just rips her apart

she flys so high

never wanting to fall

she’s spent so much time building her walls

now, that’s just the problem

with letting them in

it’s simply a game they’ll certainly win

the tongue of a snake

with no shame in reach

beautiful words in that long practiced speach

don’t tell her she’s special

don’t lay on that charm

you’re still just a player, doing great harm

her heart always open

her eyes always shut

loving too great, loving too much

continue your game

keep up on your play

just know it won’t always be that way

loving too easy

loving so strong

it might be too fast but its never wrong

you might not be the right one

you might not be the best one

you might simply be there to teach her a lesson

she can accept that now

maybe forever

she still knows better, she never says never

someday there’ll be someone

to love her so true

but that someone, someday, just isn’t you

I still care. I’m still here. The letter is still true.

But I am hurting. I am sad. And I’m allowed.

I wish someone would ask me how I’m doing for once.
